Century Containers continues supply partnership with Foregale Roofing & Reinforcement specialists.

Challenge:

  • Company Overview Foregale Ltd are a Roofing & Reinforcement specialised material company that supply the building industry. Established in 1988, they currently hold two depots across East and West Yorkshire in Hull and Liversidge. We have supplied them with similar products in the past and this is continuation of our relationship with specialised shipping containers for the storage of specialised materials.
  • Bespoke Sizing & Access A bespoke sizing for the shipping container was required as the length of the materials and the site has requirements for a specific fit, in which a standard 40' unit would be too large and a 20' Container would be too small. Access wise, the team at Foregale required access from the right hand side with a forklift. Standard Shipping comtainer doors would be fit for purpose
  • Anti-Condensation and Colour Matching The materials planned to be held inside the unit are suspect to corrosion and with the depots placement close to the Humber estuary, as well as the typical British climate, anti-condensation solutions were integral to the project. We were also tasked with creating specific colour coding from the team to match with existing environmental palettes and brand colours.

Solution:

  • Bespoke Sizing A simple task for our fabricators to create a 30' shipping container, we started with one of our used shipping containers at a 40' sizing. Cutting it down to the specified size, with the initial quotation aiming for 29.5 ft. Container castings were removed and a 10ft of container box section was removed. Castings were then replaced and welded back into place, creating the 30ft container unit. Alongside the 30ft modified shipping container, we were also asked to create a 20ft side opening container. This was achieved by moving existing container doors to the side of the unit. creating an easy to access storage unit.
  • Access The team decided to remove the right hand length from the newly sized container, reinforcing the roof section and creating a new opening to be covered by a drawn curtain. Tracking was placed to allow each way movement of the curtain. Creating a opening of just under 29ft. This meant that the Foregale team were able to easily access the unit and simply fix back the curtain to the container. Creating an easy to use storage solution. The curtain was fixed in place on to both side brackets via straps and to a lower fixed plate by spring loaded clips.
  • Anti-Condensation As mentioned previously, corrosion was a concern for the team with the materials to be stored have a tendency to rust if kept in open conditions for too long. The Century Containers team were able top source premium anticondensation paint from specialist suppliers. A double coating was introduced to the interior of the container, this should give years of protection from moisture inside the shipping xontainer.
  • Colour Matching Aesthetics are important to the Century team. The look and feel of such a large container in certain settings can help to blend into its surroundings. We were tasked with colour matching previous containers that we have supplied, this was in a Van Dyke Brown and the cover in a Gentian Blue. Container RAL colours are understood by our team and we are able to match to company brands by working closely with our paint partner suppliers.

Outcome:

The outcome of this project was the creation of two bespoke shipping containers, in two different sizes. Firstly our fantastic look 30ft Curtain Sided container. The team nicknaming the unit 'project chocolate bar', due to the container subtly striking dark brown colour. The blue curtain standing brightly on the darker background. The 20ft container unit with side door opening was created in the same colour to pair with its larger sibling. The team were able to create both the modified containers comfortably within the time frame given by the commissioning company.
