Case Study: Supplying Container Solutions for Hull's Freedom Festival
Client: Freedom Festival, Hull
Date: August 2024
Location: Hull, East Yorkshire
Project Type: Festival Support (Exhibition and Arts Installation)
Overview
Hull’s Freedom Festival is one of the city’s most cherished annual events, celebrating creativity, culture, and the city’s rich history in the fight for freedom. In 2024, we were delighted to play a part in this homegrown festival by supplying two sets of containers to support its innovative exhibitions and arts projects. With our roots firmly planted in Hull, this collaboration allowed us to give back to our community, contribute to the event's creative spirit, and gain excellent local exposure.
Solution:
Project Brief
Freedom Festival approached us with a unique requirement for two distinct installations:
- Exhibition Space: The event needed robust, adaptable, and visually appealing containers to house a key exhibition. These containers would serve as temporary structures for displays, engaging visitors throughout the festival.
- Arts Project (Parcel Project): A more unusual request came for an arts-based initiative called the "Parcel Project," which sought to transform a container into a platform for artistic expression and their year long 'Parcel Project'. The brief required a rustic, used container that embodied the concept of reuse, upcycling, and transformation.
Outcome:
Our Contribution
As a local business with a deep connection to the city and the festival’s mission, we decided to support the Freedom Festival free of charge. This not only aligned with our corporate values of community involvement and sustainability but also provided fantastic visibility in front of the thousands of visitors who attend the festival each year.
Container Solutions Provided
- Exhibition Installation
- Containers: 2 x 10ft High Cube Containers
- Colour: RAL 7017 Anthracite Grey
- Purpose: These containers were selected for their modern, industrial aesthetic, which complemented the exhibition’s contemporary theme. The high cube design provided extra height for larger exhibits, making them ideal for housing interactive displays and installations. Painted in Anthracite Grey (RAL 7017), the containers offered a sleek, professional look, ensuring the space was both functional and visually engaging.
- Parcel Project (Arts Installation)
- Container: 1 x Rustic Used Container
- Purpose: The container’s worn, rustic appearance added authenticity to the project, reinforcing the message that even the most industrial materials can be reinvented as spaces for creativity
Parcel Project: What Is It?
The Parcel Project is a collaboration of Johannes Bellinkx and Studio Daan Brinkmann. Community-driven arts project that followed the journey of a parcel as it travelled around the country been delivered household to business to household. With a small camera placed inside facing outwards capturing its journey through the UKs postal Service systems. It was a huge success and the container was constantly filled throughout the weekend.
